Engineering Leadership / AI Developer Tooling / Platform
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Remote: Preferred
Willing to relocate: Yes
Technologies: Python, TypeScript, React, Django, Node.js, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, AWS, GCP, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Airflow, ETL, vector databases, FAISS, llama.cpp, vLLM, local inference, some rust
Résumé/CV: https://opertus.systems
Email: mark@opertus.systems
Engineering leader with 12+ years building products, infrastructure, and teams, from early-stage startups to systems serving millions of users.
I’m useful when product goals, infrastructure, and team structure are out of sync: stabilizing systems, improving developer experience, reducing manual operations, and helping teams ship without adding unnecessary process.
Recently I’ve been focused on practical AI-assisted development: coding agents, developer tooling, custom harnesses, retrieval, local inference, repo-local context, and the workflow changes needed to make these tools reliable enough for real engineering teams. I’m interested in AI that improves maintainability, feedback loops, and operational leverage, not just code volume.
Previously at Calm, YC-backed startups, and nonprofit technology organizations; now consulting through Opertus Systems. I’ve helped organizations modernize infrastructure, improve engineering velocity, scale teams, and ship AI-powered systems that hold up in production.
